Wendy watched her father head out, she was relieved that she had managed to hide her father's stash of drinks before he had left. He hadn't been happy about his missing drinks, but Wendy had persuaded him that there would be drinks at the party. He had eventually seen her point and had then changed into something somewhat decent before leaving. Wendy sagged against the door frame as soon as he had left, she wished not for the first time that her mother hadn't died.
Wendy checked to make sure that he had really left, before racing to her room and pulling out her blue dress that she only wore for special occasions. The dress fir her perfectly and she smiled as she remembered having gotten it with her mother. It had been two months before her mother had drowned after she had been thrown overboard during a terrible storm.
She pulled it on and looked around for a bow to keep her curls back from her face, she finally found the matching bow hidden from view behind her dresser. She picked it up and brushed the remaining pieces of lint off of it, before using it to hold her curly hair back. She examined herself critically in the mirror before grabbing her matching blue shoes and heading out, she had already memorized the path to take to get to the party.
She would have to sneak in and she knew where she was going to get in, she snuck in through a back entrance. Her eyes widened at all the festivity, she had never actually been to an adult party before, she ducked behind some bushes when a group of party goers passed her. While she was crouching, she heard some movement above her and her eyes widened when she saw a figure on top of the wall. She could tell that the person was male, however he was wearing a cloak that covered his face, she wondered why he was.
The figure disappeared over the edge and Wendy frowned, her eyes scanned the party and zeroed in on the figure of her father. He was holding a drink and talking with some people, she sighed in relief at least he had made it to the party. She checked to make sure that no one was coming her way before getting up and making her way to the buffet table. She hastily filled up a plate before heading back to her hiding spot, she ate slowly and studied people in the crowd.
It was starting to get late and Wendy had to shake her foot a couple of times to keep it from going to sleep on her, she hadn't seen the caped man in awhile and hoped that he wouldn't be headed back. She wondered at why he had been wearing a cloak when everyone else hadn't. The thought kept her occupied until she must have drifted off, she woke up feeling sore and sat up, she heard screams and she shook her head to clear it. She poked her head out from her hiding place and her eyes widened when she saw people congregated around someone. Something must have happened, she looked for her father, but couldn't see him in the huge crowd that had built up. Someone started crying, "He's dead??!!" Wendy jerked at that, who could have died?? She hoped it wasn't her father...
